Legislator Losquadro demands Long Island State Senators Foley and Johnson withdraw support of proposed MTA payroll tax
Mount Sinai, NY- Suffolk County Legislator and Minority Leader Daniel P. Losquadro (R- Shoreham) today along with his colleagues in the Legislature called on the Long Island Senate Delegation and Governor Paterson to vote against the proposed MTA payroll tax. The proposed tax would add another $97 million in taxes paid by Suffolk County residents to the MTA.
“Suffolk County residents already pay over 250 million dollars in taxes to the MTA each year, and we get the minimum of services in Suffolk. I simply don’t understand why anyone in Suffolk County would be willing to foot more of the bill for more services that they are not using,” said Legislator Losquadro.
The proposed payroll tax does not even include imposing tolls on the last toll free remaining bridges in New York City where most of the money is being spent.
“Its time for our elected officials to stand up for Long Island, our Democrat State Senators Foley and Johnson must withdraw their support from this bill. The New York City tax and spend ways do not work in here in Suffolk County. This outrageous proposed tax could be the nail in the coffin for many families that are struggling to just survive and stay here in Suffolk County. I urge our elected representatives to do the right thing and not turn their back on the people they ultimately represent,” concluded Losquadro.
